Mary Ellen's Story
Life
I joined Shell after graduating Virginia Tech in 1985. Houston was home from 1985-2003 (with the exception of two years(98-00) spent in the Netherlands). I quit Shell in 2003 and moved to Rhode Island only to relocate again 18 months later back to the Houston area. What can I say: Yankee by birth; Texan by choice!
In 1992 I became a single mother and life has never been the same since! I only hope that the rest of the journey will be as wonderful as it has been so far...
Hope everyone who reads this has enjoyed life since OMHS...
School
Thanks to some wonderful teachers along the way, I always enjoyed school. I still love learning but find it harder to make it a priority...
In case they ever read this, just want to let some of my teachers know they are not forgotten; they made a difference:
elementary school: Shirley Kellam
middle school: Tom Thrasher, Dale Dixon
high school: Sally Ann Cooper, Jay Bonstingl, Larry C...Expand for more

college: Frank Schneider, Philip Mellen
College
When I returned from Germany after my senior year, I headed to Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. I decided to abandon my pursuit to teach and transfered to VaTech. I obtained my BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences (Information Technology, Mathematics and German) in April 1985.
Workplace
After 18 years with Shell in IT, I relocated to Rhode Island to be closer to family and pursue a second career in education. Although I did manage to take some courses toward certification and worked as a teaching assistant, the lure of $$ was too great. I am now back in the IT world and, after a brief career consulting with Icon Information Consultants, have returned to Shell.
I haven't abandoned the dream to teach but have decided to delay the pursuit until my son graduates high school (2.5 years can't be that long :-).
Hope everyone has had an opportunity to live their dream...
